Medical Investigator

Salary: $19.39 per hour

Duties:

  • Responds promptly to death scenes and conducts independent and thorough investigation into circumstances of death.
    • Gathers detailed medical history and follow-up information as needed including but not limited to medical records and police reports to aid in the determination of cause and manner of death.
    • Photographs death scenes as required.
    • Summarizes all information in a written report(s) for duty pathologist.
    • Identifies and maintains chain of custody of evidentiary items.
  • Maintain/Initiate communication with family members and other external customers regarding cases
    • Questions witnesses, relatives and other persons to obtain pertinent information regarding decedent
  • Complete supporting case documents
    • Generate thorough Report of Death on all cases reported (Coroner’s cases and Jurisdiction released)
    • Compiles clear and concise reports in a timely fashion detailing circumstances surrounding death, medical history, related data and follow-up material.
    • Tracks and analyzes death statistics and generates monthly summaries.
    • Maintain/retrieve evidence (physical and biological) and supplies related to investigation.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in medical/biologic/scientific field, and one year of experience in death/crime scene investigation or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Years of Experience: Two years of experience in death/crime scene investigation or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • License, certifications, etc.: American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigation (ABMDI) Certified.
