Forensic Audio Visual Analyst

Salary: $18.19 - $21.41 Hourly

  • Examine analog and digital evidence;
  • Create photo lineups in accordance with police policy;
  • Evaluate and interpret data, prepare clear and concise reports documenting the processes used and the results;
  • Download and/or convert video to a format that can be viewed by officers/detectives;
  • Enter clear and concise reports into the police Records Management System;
  • Make entries to the forensic database;
  • Maintain the calls for service audit;
  • Assist in answering phone lines;
  • Assist in conducting inventory of supplies;
  • Prepare items for and testify in court;
  • Respond to locations to recover video evidence.
  • Perform other work as required.


  • Associate Degree in police science, forensic science, criminal justice or a related field; two years of experience in law enforcement audiovisual analysis or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to accurately analyze information and evidence, ability to accurately assess assigned cases and prepare detailed reports from findings; ability to work on one's own initiative with a minimum of direct supervision; basic knowledge of the rules of evidence; collection, preservation, and ability to detect what is evidence and the role it plays in the crime, ability to accurately testify in court; ability to operate digital video recorders and various electronic video equipment; ability to operate and maintain non-linear video editing systems (AVID) to include advanced digital effects; ability to access the Virginia State Police Central Criminal Image System to create photo lineups.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
  • Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.
