  • Collect evidence at crime scenes and related areas using technical processes to find, collect, store, catalog, and transport evidence.
  • Prepare representations of crime scenes or related areas using photography, video, sketches, notes, or other processes.
  • Process, classify, and safeguard evidence using laboratory and other physical processes to determine the characteristics or other information concerning evidence.
  • Prepare evidence for use and presentation to others.
  • Testify in court concerning evidence.
  • Perform related duties such as fingerprinting, maintaining chemicals, supplies, and technical equipment.
  • Perform administrative functions such as recording statistical information, compiling reports, and maintaining logs and forms.


  • Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in forensic science or a closely related field.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
  • Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
  • In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this position requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
  • Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
  • Previous experience with crime scene processing and over one year of directly related experience is preferred.
