  • Performs a variety of routine standardized tests and analysis in direct support of forensic laboratory examinations under close supervision.
  • Responsible for providing technical support to the laboratory by the preparation of reagents, sampling and preparation of items for further forensic examination, chemical and biological waste management, supply ordering and inventory control, safety program duties and case related data entry using the applicable computer database.
  • Responsible for the care, custody and maintenance of evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies.
  • Performs screening tests on sampled items and documents results.
  • Operates analytical laboratory instrumentation under supervision and assembles resulting data.
  • Triages evidence coming into the laboratory, and performs sample accessioning, data entry and conversion of paper files into electronically formatted files.
  • Provides testimony in court on work performed as requested.


  • Applicants must possess an associate's degree with an emphasis in laboratory technology, chemistry, biology, physics, or a related field to qualify for positions in this job classification.
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check performed by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
