Crime Scene Technician

Salary: $33,769 Annually

This position is responsible for processing crime scenes, evidence and investigative information. Will serve as Evidence Custodian and maintain the evidence room.

Duties:

  • Processes crime scenes and evidence: Examines crime scenes for evidence; Identifies, collects, and preserves physical evidence; Performs crime scene photography and sketching; Crime scene processing according to established rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Documents all investigative information: prepares detailed case reports and records; enter/uploads information into department databases; verifies accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Participates in court activities: prepares cases for prosecution; testifies in judicial proceedings regarding findings and procedures used in evidence collection and processing.
  • Receive various forms, diagrams, equipment, operational guides, chemical labels, street maps, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
  • Operates and maintains a motor vehicle, digital camera, video camera, forensic processing tools and equipment, fingerprinting tools and equipment, laboratory tools and equipment, etc.
  • Maintains evidence room directly responsible for the control of all property stored by the department in the property storage room.
  • Will serve as Evidence Custodian.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prefer college degree in associated field and two (2) years of experience in crime scene processing and analysis of evidence.
  • Active certification(s) in crime scene procedures and others as deemed necessary by the Police Department preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Special Requirements
  • Possess or obtain within three (3) years P.O.S.T. Crime Scene Technician Certification.
  • Posses or obtain with five (5) years International Association for Identification Crime Scene Investigator Certification.
