Evidence Coordinator

Salary: $28.28 Hourly

Responsible for converting evidence, such as, proprietary audio, video, and data files to a format that can be easily and effectively accessed, redacted, and presented in courtroom presentations via a laptop, document camera, or DVD player. Edits I redacts audio and video files to remove objectionable statements and admissions prior to courtroom presentation. Serves as the District Attorney representative and primary contact for law enforcement agencies regarding issues related to digital evidence. Assists with integration of office business practices with Odyssey Case Management System. Provides in-house training on various computer applications and programs used within the District Attorney's Office. Determines hardware, software or system specifications to receive, store and distribute all digital evidence electronically (instead of hard copy).

Duties:

  • Assists with the creation of audio/visual exhibits used in court hearings and trials.
  • Assists with integration of office business practices with Odyssey Case Management System.
  • Provides in-house training on various computer applications and programs used within the District Attorney's Office.
  • Determines hardware, software or system specifications to receive, store and distribute all digital evidence electronically (instead of hard copy).
  • Project Management - oversight, acquisition and integration of county wide software for the office.
  • Assists in case and trial preparations by processing, creating, or editing audio/visual media in various physical and electronic formats.
  • Oversees the development, management, and maintenance of media evidence through an integrated media file management system.
  • Uses existing and emerging technology to comply with criminal discovery pursuant to the Michael Morton Act.
  • Assists District Attorney Office employees with technical difficulties related to media playback and general usage of computers and applications which fall outside the scope of County ITS support.
  • Creates a budget for technology equipment such as servers, computers and software.
  • Designs system for entire District Attorney's office for electronic storage of digital evidence to include development, purchase and implementation.
  • Provides technical assistance to Assistant District Attorneys and Court Legal Assistants with mandatory e-filing in civil and family justice cases.
  • Provides in-house training and assistance in using Microsoft Office applications and other software as needed to all District Attorney employees as it pertains to District Attorney usage.
  • Downloads, stores, properly labels, extracts and bums to disc video from law enforcement agencies.
  • Copies, redacts, and converts video and audio files.Assists prosecutor and/or investigator in developing court presentations by redacting and/or converting video into usable clips.

  • Coordinates with evidence divisions at law enforcement agencies to receive evidence which may include travel to that agency to retrieve evidence.
  • Performs instruction and training on media software standard procedures for receiving, storing, entering, redacting, editing, converting and file creation.
  • Exercises time management skills & prioritizes tasks appropriately to allow for timely completion of job duties.
  • Communicates with internal staff, law enforcement agencies, attorneys and other officials.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of records and information.
  • Performs related special projects as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, telephone usage, typing, filing, making copies, standing, communicating reaching, walking, twisting, bending, repetitive motions, and standing in the performance of daily activities.
  • Continual work at a computer keyboard.
  • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally with assistance and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
  • Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned, smoke free office.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree, Associates degree, or trade school certificate with a concentration of study in computer science and technology or an equal combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Highly proficient in Adobe suite (Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop)Highly proficient in audio/video file conversion, editing, and playback with computer applications such as Womble, L3 Flashback Converter, or similar applications, and the codecs used by media files for playback.
  • Experience with SQL or MySQL, including the ability to write SQL queries.
  • Ability to learn new programs and technologies
  • Ability to type and enter data with appropriate speed and efficiency.
  • Maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - Required within thirty (30) days of employment
  • Valid driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education and experience equivalent to five (5) years in the field of management information systems, electronic audio/visual creation and management, or related field in the performance of similar duties.
  • Experience with computer programming and interfacing with databases.
  • Prior experience in a legal environment.
