The Oregon State Police is seeking an experienced and professional Fingerprint Technician to join the Criminal Justice Information Services Division.

The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at the Fingerprint Technician level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the Office Specialist 2 ($2,555 - $3,578 per month) to apply, as we may consider under-filling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for a Fingerprint Technician.

  • As a fingerprint technician you will analyze fingerprint cards received from various agencies throughout the state to establish positive identification for background check purposes.
  • In this role, you will be responsible to prepare and disseminate accurate criminal history information to authorized requesting agencies in support of regulatory fingerprint background check process and our criminal justice agency partners. You will also compare fingerprint cards received from various agencies throughout the state to establish positive identification.

Fingerprint Technician Qualifications
  • One year of experience in fingerprint pattern determination/ridge encoding using an Automated Fingerprint Identification System
  • OR
  • Completion of a 40-hour Federal Bureau of Investigations Basic Fingerprint Identification course or its equivalent.
Office Specialist 2 Qualifications
  • Two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating document;
  • OR
  • An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
  • OR
  • College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology; and one year of general clerical experience.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience using a database to enter and retrieve information
  • Experience with proofreading documents for accuracy
  • Experience in a production environment
  • Experience working in an administrative capacity in the law enforcement community
  • Ability to work non-traditional shifts in a 24/7 work unit
