This position has been designated as "in-training"; as such, WSP will consider filling this position at the Forensic Scientist 3, Forensic Scientist 2, or Forensic Scientist 1 level. The salary range will depend upon which level the position is filled at and the qualifications of the successful candidate:

  • Forensic Scientist 3 - Range 66: $5,358 - $7,032 per month
  • Forensic Scientist 2 - Range 56: $4,191 - $5,493 per month
  • Forensic Scientist 1 - Range 50: $3,612 - $4,737 per month

  • Perform laboratory analysis of physical evidence in complex casework using accepted scientific methods.
  • Document and protect evidence according to current laboratory procedures.
  • Record and organize observations and data to create a record that explains their analytical work and the conclusions reached in the laboratory report in a legible manner and that allows for technical and administrative review.
  • Report scientific findings in the form of a written forensic laboratory report based on the interpretation of observations and analytical test results.
  • Complete analyses of high quality, preformed using forensically accepted scientific methods, and in accordance with the current Crime Laboratory Division Operations and Quality manuals and applicable technical procedures.
  • Provide technical review and administrative review of casework.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes.
  • Testify as an expert witness in a court of law.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in forensic science, natural science, or closely related field. Examples of related fields, include but not limited to: genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, medical technology, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry, nuclear chemistry, or toxicology.
  • Chemistry coursework (20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours).
  • Coursework in biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology (9 semester hours or 14 quarters hours combined).
Desired Qualifications:
  • Physics coursework (5 semester hours or 8 quarter hours)
  • Statistics or population genetics coursework or training.
Additional qualifications are desirable for the levels listed below:
  • Forensic Scientist 1: No technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence is required.
  • Forensic Scientist 2: One year of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence.
  • Forensic Scientist 3: Three years of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence, which includes testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.
