Forensic Technician - Biology

Salary: $1,288.00 - $2,106.40 Biweekly

Participates in a variety of analytical laboratory support activities. Entry of case information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); receipt and return of evidence; preparation of DNA extracts for return to the investigating agency; preparation of standards and reagents to include the quality control check of critical reagents; track inventory and order laboratory supplies; routine maintenance of laboratory equipment including daily to annual performance checks of critical equipment. May assist with the validation of new equipment and chemistries. Will perform analytical tasks under the direction and supervision of an analyst.

  • Provides support in the areas of reagent preparation and instrument maintenance.
  • Receives evidence from law enforcement agencies, prepares and returns samples to law enforcement agencies
  • Provides assistance to the laboratory through supply inventory and ordering.
  • Provides analytical assistance to the laboratory. This may be accomplished through assistance in validating new techniques, equipment and chemistries or through analytical testing on casework evidence under the direct supervision of an analyst.


  • Possession of an associate's degree in forensic science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related pure or applied science.
  • Forensic Technician 8 - No specific type or amount is required.
  • Forensic Technician 9 - One year of experience equivalent to a Forensic Technician 8.
  • Forensic Technician E10 - Two years of experience equivalent to a Forensic Technician, including one year equivalent to a Forensic Technician 9.
Alternate Education and Experience
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job specific or related course work may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
