Forensic Evidence Technician

Salary: $16.75 - $18.43 Hourly

Perform advanced level lab technician duties on a day-to-day basis to achieve short-term goals of the work group.

  • Collects forensic evidence and maintains chain of custody as required by each case
  • Maintains monthly files of lab test results
  • Enters evidence information into computer
  • Stores and maintains security of all evidence held by the lab
  • May testify in court regarding items of evidence
  • Conducts and documents maintenance and quality control procedures according to protocol and regulatory guidelines
  • Orders and maintains supplies for testing
  • Performs advanced level lab testing and autopsy duties as appropriate or routinely expected
  • Maintains and operates various instruments and equipment within the laboratory
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned


  • High school diploma, GED or higher level of education.
  • One (1) year of Full-Time work experience as an evidence technician (or in a position requiring good organizational skills and close attention to detail).
  • Or one (1) year of Full-Time work experience performing autopsies and/or working in funeral homes.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy preferred.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • If hired, you must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing
  • Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, lift, carry, push, pull, bending, sit, climb and stooping.
  • Exposure to human/animal remains, forensic instruments, pathenogens, chemical or biological hazards, blood and other body fluids.
