Duties:

The Assistant Manager of Forensic Services executes plans for the direction and control of personnel and resources associated with the recognition, collection, preservation, storage, and analysis of forensic evidence. Primary duties include:
  • Monitoring of division productivity and resource allocation to ensure compliance with existing policy, legal obligations, and ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation standards;
  • Development and recommendation of policies, procedures, practice, and preventative actions to promote provision of consistent and competent services that are characterized by a strict adherence to quality system policy;
  • Fair and equitable administration and oversight of disciplinary and corrective actions, employee training programs, and long-term employee development;
  • Logistics management related to the provision of division services administered in complex criminal investigations.
  • In addition to assisting with operational oversight of functions performed by the Division's Crime Scene Investigations Section and Property/Evidence Section, this employee is responsible for direct supervision of the Latent Print Section and the Firearms & Tool Mark Section and will fulfill the associated role of Quality Manager within the Forensic Services Division's Quality Assurance System.
  • This role requires the employee to coordinate and administer activities required for maintenance and oversight of implemented quality system policies to ensure continued conformance with ANSI-ASQ ISO/IEC 17020:2012.
  • Accreditation requirements may also be required.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree with 10+ years of experience in a forensic/crime scene environment "Or" Associates Degree with 14+ years of experience in a forensic/crime scene environment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Microsoft Windows Office Suite experience
  • Valid NC Driver License.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience as expert witness in criminal trials.
  • Prior experience supervising a Local, State, Federal Crime Lab or Forensics Division
  • Prior experience as a supervisor working for an Accredited Forensic Crime Lab
  • Prior experience performing casework examinations in one of the comparison disciplines such as DNA, Trace Evidence, Latent Prints, Firearms and Tool Marks.
  • Prior experience supervising large scale and complex crime scenes
  • Crime Scene Investigations or a specialized forensic discipline from the International Association for Identification or similar certifying body
