Duties and Requirements:

Forensic Scientist I: Hourly Compensation Rate: $22.16
  • Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: training in the area of digital evidence examinations by means of an intensive two-year training program to include the handling of evidence, preserving the integrity of the evidence, imaging and analyzing the data for both computers and mobile devices, report writing and court testimony.
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree relevant to the field of work. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Preferred Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science or a related scientific field.
Forensic Scientist II: Hourly Compensation Rate: $26.98
  • Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: performing examinations on digital evidence; taking actions to recover, preserve, and analyze data from electronic sources, including desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices, removable media, and other items deemed necessary; documents evidence and writes reports of findings; testifies as an expert witness in a court of law; provides training and presentations to outside agencies and organizations.
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree relevant to the field of work and two (2) years relevant work experience. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Preferred Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science or a related scientific field.
  • IACIS-Certified Forensic Computer Examiner, EnCase Certified Examiner, and/or Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner is desired.
  • Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited forensic science laboratory.
Forensic Scientist III: Hourly Compensation Rate: $32.78
  • Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: performing examinations on digital evidence; taking actions to recover, preserve, and analyze data from electronic sources, including desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices, removable media, and other items deemed necessary; documents evidence and writes reports of findings; testifies as an expert witness in a court of law; provides training and presentations to outside agencies and organizations. Reviews technical procedures and provides assistance with audits.
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree relevant to the field of work and three (3) years relevant work experience. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Preferred Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science or a related scientific field.
  • IACIS-Certified Forensic Computer Examiner, EnCase Certified Examiner, and/or Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner is desired.
  • Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited forensic science laboratory.
  • Experience testifying in a court of law as a Digital Forensic Examiner.
TRAVEL
  • The position is expected to travel to the locations required to competently and diligently discharge the assigned duties. Occasional in-state and limited out-of-state travel may be required. The incumbent in this position is required to have a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

  • Verification of identity and employment eligibility to work in the United States is required by federal law.
  • As a condition of employment, candidate(s) are subject to a pre-employment process to include a polygraph examination, fingerprint based records check, and comprehensive background investigation, including reference check of past and present employers. The pre-employment process will be waived for current KBI personnel who have previously completed the screening requirements.
