Duties:

This position will perform forensic analysis of biological samples in criminal and death investigations within an American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) certified laboratory. In addition, this position will perform testing for the presence of alcohol, drugs and poisons and prepare legally defensible reports from Gas Chromatography (GC) and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) and computer reports. This position will provide factual and/or expert testimony in a court of law when needed and perform complex technical case reviews as part of the quality assurance process required by the ABFT. This position will be responsible for method development and validation including preparing standard operating procedures for the analyses of new drugs on new and existing complex instrumentation including GCMS and Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) and provide effective supervision to assigned personnel and perform and conduct performance reviews on assigned staff.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or closely related field, and four (4) years paid experience in chemical experimentation and analysis in a laboratory setting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate. In state and out of state travel may be required. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a fully functional laboratory containing biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards. Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer. There will be extended standing, repetitive trunk/arm/hand/neck movements with computer usage or assay/methodologies utilized. Work involves using high voltage electronic instrumentation, and high pressure gas cylinders. Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
