Property Room Technician

The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for a Part Time Property Room Technician. This position performs a variety of technical duties in the maintenance and processing of criminal evidence; testify in court as an expert witness; and performs general technical duties in support of the police department.

Duties:

  • Daily intakes and storage/bin assignment for evidence as it is received.
  • Responds to the Prosecutor's Office for copies of evidentiary records, to include DVD's, recordings and applicable paperwork, as it relates to trial case preparation and management.
  • Prepares all evidence for audits, both annual and periodic, in conjunction with the Evidence Technician and Special Services Lieutenant.
  • Evidence management and case monitoring for routine inventory purge from the Evidence Room, to include working with the Prosecutor's Office on destruction orders and noting case dispositions within the LERMS system.
  • Destruction of narcotics and firearms on a regular basis per regulations.

Requirements:

Typical Qualifications:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years responsible office experience preferably in a police department.
  • Knowledge of rules of evidence collection, preservation, labeling, cataloging and storage, and applicable Federal, state and local laws desired.
  • Must pass all relevant background check requirements.
  • Physical: Ability to sit up to eight hours a day at a computer; routinely lift and carry heavy objects; and present testimony in court as an expert witness.
  • Mental: Ability to operate office machines and computer; establish and maintain effective working relationships; prioritize and organize work; work with public in a calm and effective manner; manage multiple tasks; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Supplemental Information:
  • Must be available to work a yearly average of 32 hours per week to maintain Part-Time with benefit status.
  • This position generally works Monday-Friday, evenings and weekends may be required based on the needs of the department.
