The Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory is developing a list of qualified candidates to fill a Lab Technician II opening in the Biology Unit. The Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory has held ASCLD/LAB accreditation since 2004 and ASCLD/LAB ISO 17025 accreditation since 2014. The Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory is located in Lincoln. We provide services to law enforcement agencies throughout the State of Nebraska.

Duties:

This position will be responsible for reagent preparation, quality control checks of reagents, equipment maintenance, and assisting with the purchasing and stocking of supplies for the Biology Unit. This position will be responsible for the checking in of DNA database samples and entering them into the Laboratory Information Management System. This position may also assist in downstream sample processing in casework or databank.

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience performing laboratory bench procedures in a chemical, environmental, microbiological, or biological laboratory. You must submit a resume and your transcripts with your application.
PREFERRED:
  • B.A./B.S. or advanced degree or its equivalent in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-related area.
  • One year experience working in a scientific laboratory.
  • Experience working with DNA and DNA analysis methods, specifically in human STR analysis using the ABI 3500 Genetic Analyzer.
OTHER:
  • Valid driver's license is required or ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • KNOWLEDGE OF: agency laboratory procedures and protocol; laboratory safety and sanitation practices; chemical, biological, environmental, or microbiological methodology; agency and laboratory organization and priorities.
  • ABILITY TO: operate laboratory equipment assigned; perform detailed, sequential tests and analysis on chemical or biological materials; complete laboratory records. Ideal candidate must be a motivated self-starter with keen critical thinking skills allowing for the ability to troubleshoot work problems while maintaining compliance with approved standards and procedures.
