Forensic Scientist 3 - Materials Analysis

Washington State Patrol, Tacoma or Vancouver, Washington

Salary: $4,762 - $6,247 per month

This position has been designated as "in-training"; as such, WSP will consider filling this position at the Forensic Scientist 3, Forensic Scientist 2, or Forensic Scientist 1 level. The salary range will depend upon which level the position is filled at and the qualifications of the successful candidate:
  • Forensic Scientist 3 - Range 62: $4,762 - $6,247 per month
  • Forensic Scientist 2 - Range 52: $3,721 - $4,879 per month
  • Forensic Scientist 1 - Range 46: $3,212 - $4,208 per month

Duties:

The Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory Division (CLD) mission is to provide competent forensic science services and training for the agencies within Washington's criminal justice community. The CLD is focused on providing the highest quality forensic services which ultimately enhance public safety for the citizens of Washington.

In support of this mission, these positions perform independent, timely and accurate analyses of routine and complex casework, writing opinion reports, testifying to conclusions in courts of law, and providing training to criminal justice agencies.

Requirements:

REQUIRED:
  • A Bachelor's degree in forensic science, natural science, or closely related field which includes a minimum of 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of chemistry and 5 semester or 8 quarter hours of physics.
DESIRED: Additional qualifications are desirable for the levels listed below:
  • Forensic Scientist 1:
    • One year of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence.
  • Forensic Scientist 2:
    • Two years of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence.
  • Forensic Scientist 3:
    • Three years of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence, which includes testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.
