Salary: $51,498 to $100,658.00

The Denver Police Department Crime Laboratory is seeking applicants for a Forensic Scientist I or II (Latent Print Examiner) position that will be available starting January 2017.

Duties:

This position performs all aspects of criminal casework on evidentiary materials, including evaluation and preparation of evidence, latent print training/analysis, interpretation of analytical results, preparation of case reports, active participation and commitment to improving the laboratory ISO/IEC 17025 quality assurance/quality control program, and expert testimony and support to District Attorneys.

Requirements:

Education:
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a field directly related to this forensic science discipline.
Experience:
  • Forensic Scientist I: None
  • Forensic Scientist II: Three years of forensic laboratory experience in the evaluation, analysis and comparison of latent prints.
Equivalency:
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to those who qualify for a Forensic Scientist II
  • The preferred candidate will have three years of experience in latent print examinations to include knowledge and training in chemical processing for the presence of latent prints; knowledge of and experience with the AFIS/IAFIS systems; currently a Certified Latent Print Examiner through the International Association for Identification; knowledge in the use of computers and laboratory information management systems, knowledge in the use of Adobe Photoshop, knowledge of the rules of evidence, and knowledge of crime scene evidence identification, collection and preservation as it applies to latent print evidence. The preferred candidate will also have casework experience or training in footwear/tire tread examination.
