Class Summary:

The positions in this class, under general supervision receive, store, and safeguard evidence and property obtained as a result of law enforcement activities. Release evidence for lab work and court appearances and returns cleared property to owners.

Distinguishing Characteristics of the Class:

This is a journey-level class in the Evidence Warehouser series. Positions in this class are responsible for safeguarding of evidence in a strict security environment and maintaining accurate records of all evidence received. This class differs from the Sr. Evidence Warehouser in that this class has primary responsibility for storing and releasing of evidence while the latter class has lead responsibility for subordinate staff and clears evidence for release, disposal or resale. Department and Unit operating procedures and guidelines are available and this class must maintain strict adherence to these guidelines in performing the work. The work requires basic knowledge of warehousing procedures and special requirements of safeguarding and controlling access to law enforcement evidence. Special tasks are reviewed for strict compliance with procedures.

Regular contacts include department personnel for receipt and release of evidence for lab and court activities and with the general public to respond to questions and to return property.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Required to work rotating shifts. Required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires one year of warehousing or clerical experience, preferably in evidence warehousing (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Licensing and Other Requirements:

Background investigation by the Seattle Police Department.
