Class Summary:
The positions in this class, under general supervision, lead or coordinate the work of Evidence Warehousers in receiving, storing and safeguarding evidence obtained from law enforcement activities; clear for disposal items no longer needed as evidence and organize resalable items for police auctions.
Distinguishing Characteristics of the Class:
This is the lead or senior level class in the Evidence Warehouser series. The Senior Evidence Warehouser classification is distinct from the Evidence Warehouser classification because this class has lead worker responsibilities and/or performs complex tasks such as clearing evidence for release, disposal or resale. Department and Unit operating procedures and guidelines are available and employees in this class must maintain strict adherence to these guidelines in performing their work. Special tasks are reviewed to ensure conformance with these procedures. The work requires knowledge of warehousing procedures and the special requirements of safeguarding and controlling access to law enforcement evidence. This class must have knowledge of appraising property to determine resale value. Judgment is required to determine the value of property and which items should be retained for re-sale or discarded.
Regular contacts include department personnel to receive and release evidence and with the general public to respond to questions and to return property.
