Senior Criminalist - Firearm Examiner

Salary: $2,109.35 - $2,320.29/biweekly

Duties: Performs advanced sophisticated collection, analysis and evaluation of evidence utilizing standardized and industry acceptable techniques. Reports results to agencies. Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment and quality control procedures. Maintains sufficient inventory of supplies needed for workload in a timely manner. Conducts education instruction on lab procedures used by the County. May participate in independent research. May provide technical assistance to law enforcement agencies
8. May recommend changes to lab procedures. Prepares written reports and prepared to testify at court proceedings. Prepares monthly or special reports of activities. Trains or ensures training of work group in laboratory procedures. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements: : To apply, must have a Master's degree or higher in a life science or forensic science + five (5) full-time years of related work experience OR must have a Bachelor's degree in a life science or forensic science + seven (7) full-time years of related work experience. Must have direct experience as a court-qualified expert in firearms and toolmark examination.

Elected membership in learned scientific societies in the particular area of expertise is desirable. Must have advanced level of knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of field of specialty. Requires successful completion of annual externally administered proficiency testing. Must maintain knowledge of up to date technology and practices in the field of specialty. Ability to use PC and applicable software. Must have advanced level oral and written/presentation and communication skills. Ability to make independent judgment. Must have advanced skills in laboratory protocols/procedures, techniques and knowledge of evidence handling and testing procedures. If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent sitting, bending, lifting, stooping, pushing/pulling, standing and walking.
