Salary: $3,408.35-$4,650.22 per month

Duties: Performs basic chemical, physical, and optical scientific techniques to locate/recover/compare/identify fingerprints left at crime scenes. Assists in crime scene investigations. Work is performed under close supervision. Begins training in techniques and procedures to be used in the development of latent prints on diverse items of physical evidence by using physical, chemical, optical or any combination of techniques appropriate to the substance being examined. Preserves and/or photographs developed latent print evidence and makes necessary comparisons with known impressions. Assists in obtaining legible friction ridge impressions of known and unknown deceased persons in various stages of decomposition. Receives and returns evidence using proper forms guaranteeing and maintaining the accepted chain of evidence. Travels throughout the state to assist in crime scene investigations. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with courses in physical science, criminal justice, industrial technology or related fields (transcript[s] required if used as a qualifier) plus the equivalent of one (1) year or more of full-time work experience as a Fingerprint Technician classifying, manually searching and filing standard fingerprint cards (ten-prints), and entering card data into an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) OR one (1) year or more of full-time work experience as a Crime Scene Technician processing crime scenes for latent prints OR as a Latent Print Examiner, OR *graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and either two (2) years of full-time work experience as a Latent Print Examiner in a recognized crime laboratory or identification division of a law enforcement agency, dealing with the development, comparison, and identification of latent prints or one (1) year of the described Latent Print Examiner experience AND four (4) years or more of progressively complex full-time work experience as a Fingerprint Technician or Crime Scene Technician as described, OR six (6) years or more of full-time Fingerprint Technician or Crime Scene Technician work experience as described. Applicants who have a higher level of qualifications may be employed, after evaluation, at a higher level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to: exercise technically accurate judgment in the selection/application of the most effective methods for locating/developing/preserving latent prints on a wide variety of materials and surfaces; exercise technically accurate judgment in effecting a positive identification, a negative comparision, or in determining a latent print is of no value for comparison purposes; and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
