Crime Scene/Fingerprint Technician

Salary: $21.92 to $29.59/Hour

Duties: This position examines and compares for identification forensic evidence related to latent fingerprints. Completes quality assurance measures required in the Fingerprint Section. Responds to requests for assistance at crime scenes. Instructs and supervises law enforcement officers regarding the significance of various types of physical evidence and proper evidence collection procedures.

  • Locates and processes and develop latent fingerprints for comparison employing physical, microscopic, chemical, photographic, and instrumental techniques
  • Assures proper procedures are applied by researching new techniques and reviewing forensic literature, maintains scientific instruments and photographic equipment, and writes standard operating procedures and training materials.
  • Prepares detailed written reports for dissemination to attorneys, law enforcement officers, co-workers, and citizens, as appropriate.
  • Prepares details and testifies in courts of law as a forensic expert witness.
  • Process crime scenes for forensic evidence. Evaluates and supervise personnel at crime scene. Protects, gathers, secures, and Transports physical evidence which may be hazardous, complex, perishable, or valuable in nature. Properly package and secure evidence
  • Communicates effectively with attorneys, law enforcement officers, co-workers, and citizens in regard to evidence collected, testing employed, and interpretation of results.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in criminalistics, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, physics, forensic science or related field with one (1) year of current experience processing evidence for latent prints and comparison of latent prints. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Licenses and Certifications: IAI Certification (may be obtained after hire).
