Duties: The County of San Bernardino, Sheriff’s Department, is recruiting for Criminalists who perform laboratory examinations of physical evidence to establish facts of criminal investigations, and participate in crime scene investigations using forensic knowledge and techniques in gathering, preserving, and examining physical evidence. The resulting list will be used to fill all vacancies. Those applying for both levels should file a single application and place both titles on the front of the application. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list for six months.
Requirements: Education: A baccalaureate degree (or higher) in a natural or physical science, criminalistics, or a closely related field is required (per ASCLD/LAB accreditation standards); coursework must include eight semester (12 quarter) units of general chemistry and three semester (4 quarter) units of quantitative analysis (as required by the California Department of Health to qualify for designation as a forensic alcohol analyst). A high quality copy of your college transcript is required to be submitted with the application.

Experience: Criminalist Trainee: No experience required.
Criminalist I: One year of experience in a forensic laboratory with expertise in performing analysis and comparison of typical forensic samples in one of the following: DNA/Serology, Toolmarks/Firearms, Trace Evidence, Toxicology, Solid Dose Drug Analysis, or Alcohol Analysis.
